【 NEW ARTICLE 】 Multinationalisation of manufacturing workers due to declining birthrate and aging population
According to the 2020 Japanese census, 28.6% of the population is aged 65 and over, compared to 11.9% of the population under 15, and it is estimated that by 2038 the proportion of people aged 65 and over will exceed one in three. Against this backdrop, the manufacturing sector is experiencing an increasing multinationalisation of its workforce. The main countries are Vietnam, China and the Philippines, in that order. However, various challenges are also emerging, such as communication, skills and training issues that need to be overcome. How can Japan’s manufacturing industry cope with multinationalisation and achieve further growth in the future?
